As our daughter is fighting for her life, Team Liam was able to help relieve some of the financial stress that comes from losing our jobs to be able to be there for our daughter and to be there for each other, allowing us to be a family and spend as much time as we could with her as each day wasn’t promised.
Grant’s Story – On January 14, 2017, the Blonigen family’s life was turned upside down and lives changed in an instant. They were at Mall of America for a family day, enjoying rides when Grant age three (3) suddenly cried out in pain on his lower left side. It was an inconsolable cry that they have never heard out of him. After exhausting ideas, they drove to Children’s Hospital. After conducting an ultrasound to look for gas/blockages, a cantaloupe size mass was detected on his kidney and some lymph nodes. No symptoms had been present prior to this episode, he was a normal 3 year old sweet, active, silly, independent and stubborn boy and it was shocking to hear he was sick.
Grant was diagnosed with Stave IV Clear Cell Sarcoma of the kidney which is a rare case of kidney tumor in kids (less than 5% of kidney cancers in children).
Grant’s action plan requires an aggressive 31 weeks in-patient chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, he had surgery to remove the tumor, affected lymph nodes and left kidney followed by more chemo and radiation.
It has been and will be a long and hard journey for Grant, Jessica, Derek and the two older brothers Caleb (8 years old) and Spencer (6.5 years old). Thank you for support during these challenging times and support to fight and KILL the CANCER!
We have exhausted all funds at this point – we have been shown great support from family & friends – but we are struggling with making ends meet. Relief provided by Team Liam will most definitely help ease some of the financial stress.
